We have been actively participating in a rich variety of community events in the territory in order to spread the FAMILY holistic health messages.

Sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, jointly organized by the Sha Tin Festival Committee 2014, Sha Tin District Office and FAMILY Project, the Sha Tin Festival – Jockey Club FAMILY 3Hs Fun Fest was held at Sha Tin Sports Ground from 26 to 28 December 2014. The three-day Fun Fest attracted more than 40,000 people.

To encourage family members to do physical activities and have healthy diet, FAMILY Project set up fun games (sugary drink and nutrition label games) and information boards to allow the public to learn more about how to perform 0-1 Exercises and practice healthy eating in their daily life. FAMILY Project also held sessions of stage performances on 0-1 Exercises (for example, single leg standing and “chair & stand”). The audience was introduced to different types of 0-1 Exercises and encouraged to perform these exercises at the same time, so as to motivate them to make the first step to do physical activities with their families. Members of the audience were also invited to join the fun-filled competitions on stage.

As one of the flagship events of Sha Tin Festival 2014, the Fun Fest featured a host of entertaining games and performances, such as horse-riding, photo-taking with ponies, archery, giant slides, bubble football, Scottish piper marching and much more. All these activities provided lots of joy to the public and families.

Rotary Happy Run 2014

Rotary Happy Run 2014 was another large-scale community event that FAMILY Project has participated recently. Its main aim was to raise health concern among members of the public. FAMILY Project set up information and game booths to promote FAMILY 3Hs and attracted both the runners and the general public. Health-themed games where participants could gain knowledge on the sugar content of some prepackaged beverages and how to use a nutrition label were very popular. Physical fitness assessments including body flexibility, height and weight measurements were also conducted at the venue. Held on 30 November 2014 in Sha Tin district, the Rotary Happy Run 2014 was organized by the Rotary International District 3450 and co-organized by Shatin Sports Association. The running event was one of the programmes of Sha Tin Festival 2014.

Central and Western District Healthy City Carnival

The Central and Western District Healthy City Carnival, organized by the Steering Committee on Healthy City in the Central and Western District of the Central and Western District Council, took place on 21 December 2014 at Sheung Wan Cultural Square with the aim of promoting health for the elderly. FAMILY Project was one of the co-organizers. The project’s Principal Investigator Professor Lam Tai Hing officiated the opening ceremony with other guests. He also demonstrated some 0-1 Exercises to the public and hosted an exercise competition for the participants at the Carnival. The demonstrations and competition received enthusiastic responses. Thematic booth activities were also carried out to further deliver the 3Hs message.

2014/15 Central and Western District Health Festival

Central and Western District Health Festival marked its 20th anniversary for the year. The FAMILY Project was once again invited as one of the event co-organizers, and we played our roles in both on-stage and off-stage activities. FAMILY Project Principal Investigator Professor Lam Tai Hing introduced the participants to a series of 0-1 Exercises on the stage. He and the project team also gave demonstrations on the exercises. Off the stage, our diverse booth activities, which included educational games on 3-M and 3-L healthy diet as well as physical fitness assessments, were equally appealing to the public.

The 2014/15 Central and Western District Health Festival was held at the Sheung Wan Sports Centre on 1 and 2 November 2014. The theme of the festival was to highlight the concerns on both physical and mental health. It was organized by the Working Group on Health and Rehabilitation Service of Central and Western District Council, and co-organized by the Central and Western District Office together with many local bodies and government departments.
